Two Stage Habituation Based Neural
نویسنده
چکیده
This article describes a novel neural network structure designed for the dynamic classiica-tion of spatio-temporal signals. The network is a two-stage structure consisting of a biologically motivated temporal encoding stage followed by a static neural classiier stage. The temporal encoding stage is based upon a simple biological learning mechanism known as habituation. This habituation based neural structure is capable of approximating arbitrarily well any continuous , causal, time-invariant, mapping from one discrete time sequence to another. Such a structure is applicable to SONAR and speech signal classiication problems, among others. Experiments on classiication of high dimensional feature vectors obtained from Banzhaf sonograms, demonstrate that the proposed network performs better than time delay neural networks while using a substantially simpler structure.

A new class of neural networks is proposed for the dynamic classification of spatio-temporal signals. These networks are designed to classify signals of different durations, taking into account correlations among different signal segments. Such networks are applicable to SONAR and speech signal classification problems, among others. Network parameters are adapted based on the biologically obser...
متن کاملEffects of stocking density, feeding technique and vitamin C supplementation on the habituation on dry feed of pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) pond reared juveniles
Influence of three different stocking densities, vitamin C supplementation of Daphnia spp. and feeding practice (i.e. mechanical, hand) on the success of dry feed habituation of pond reared pikeperch juveniles was investigated through one month trial. Pond reared pikeperch juveniles were harvested 42 days post-fertilisation (mean individual weight 1.1 ± 0.3g) and stocked into the experim...

متن کاملHabituation: electrical changes in the visual system.
The amplitude of neuroelectric potentials evoked in the visual system by repetitive exposure to a two-second period of light was analyzed. At the optic nerve and lateral geniculate nucleus consistent decrement occurred in two stages. Stage 1 consisted of a sharp decline in amplitude over the first few trials; Stage 2 occurred more gradually over the course of a week of trials. Whenever consiste...
متن کاملDifferential emergence of cellular mechanisms mediating habituation and sensitization in the developing Aplysia nervous system.
The development of the cellular substrates underlying habituation and sensitization, two simple forms of learning, was examined at a polysynaptic sensory-to-motor connection in the neural circuit mediating defensive mucus release in the marine mollusc, Aplysia californica. Animals were studied throughout juvenile life, stages 9 (40 days of development) to 12 (95 days), and into adulthood, stage...
